Today is Violet’s three month birthday. Today is also the day Violet took her first airplane ride. We flew from Houston to San Antonio. This flight is supposed to be 54 minutes gate to gate…unfortunately though, there was a problem with our plane (which is always nice to hear when you’re sitting on the plane) and our flight ended up taking four hours…meaning we could have driven to San Antonio and made a 30 minute stop along the way.
The plus side is that the four hours of sitting on the plane helped us hone our skills for our big December trip to Scotland. Here are some photos from Violet's first flight:
Flying with a baby is tough. It requires a lot of teamwork and skillful maneuvering, but there are some positives. Everyone, from the check-in people, to the security people to the ladies at Starbucks at the airport who got my Green tea shaken iced tea lemonade ready in seconds flat to the normally surly flight attendants, is nice to you when you have a cute baby. It also helps that I have elite status on Continental, so we get to go to the front of the line and board first and that I have gold membership at Hertz with the same benefits. Those couple of extra minutes are immensely helpful when there’s a hungry/antsy baby involved.
All in all though, Violet did really well on her first flight. She was a little fussy, but overall, she was great. She even figured out that if she yawned her ears would pop – I tell you, she’s a genius.
Dave also did really well. This trip is a test run for next week when Dave will have Violet for three days, without me. Dave managed to keep her fed, changed, happy and rested and he got a haircut (finally). Dave also got new underwear…because we forgot to pack and extra pair for him and Violet assploded all over him.
After a really long day, we decided that we would feel beyond guilty if we didn’t visit my Ge Ge (who hadn’t met Violet), so we drove out to Somerset and Violet met her Great Ge Ge. Violet and Ge Ge:
Today I also found out that in a crunch, breast pads make excellent coasters.
Now we’re all going to sleep. Everyone enjoys a Marriott bed:

So glad to hear your first plane ride went through for all of you. Good luck on the long flight to the Scotland?
