Lamb Cake

Growing up, my Mom always made elaborate cakes. I'd like to be able to make cakes for Violet, like my Mom did for me.

I am, however, very impatient. If there's one skill a cake decorator needs, it is patience.

Anyway, I tried to muster some up and tonight I made my first 3-D cake. A traditional Easter lamb cake. I got it right on the first go (there's a lot that can go wrong with a self-standing cake). Booyah.

The wool looks great. The face is still a little creepy, but it's got nothing on the cakes below.

My awesome and only slightly creepy lamb cake:

Before I made my cake, I did a little research to see what other lamb cakes look like. It turns out that lots of people make super creepy lamb cakes to celebrate Easter. Here are some examples (I'm not giving credits or anything, these are straight up creepy cakes).

i think your lamb cake is far better then any of the others and you are so right about patience i admire cake makers and often have thought of taking some classes but i just can't deal with the time it takes to make these gorgeous cakes only to be eaten.

I too would love to make isla cool cakes. However, icing them is TOUGH! You did a great job though!

We will have to try the green bean tip. Isla has only had them mushed up before.

I am in awe of you. You need to give classes on time management skills because you are my idol.

I want to eat that cake.

That could be a way to make money...time management classes. I need to find some way to make some money for my non-critical talents.

As for eating the lamb, I can't imagine the look on our neighbor's face when I walk over to give them a lamb cake this AM. I'm making a fresh one tomorrow...so I don't want an extra one sticking around here.

That looks [sing] *awesome*! You did a really fantastic job! And I died laughing at 1959.

What's a little odd is the thought of cutting into the lamb cake. Looks delicious...little scared of cutting it.

I love how your cake turned out. Do you mind posting how you made the cake? I have a 3-D lamb mold from Germany that I'd like to use but I lost the directions. How did you fill the mold and what temp and how long did you bake it? From what I've read it is best to use a pound cake recipe.

Satan's Dog/Lamb is pretty awesome in a "I think its talking to me" type of way.
