There's a new craft workshop/working space in the Heights. Well, it's been there a year, but I'm just now getting a chance to try it out.
Today, I took the intro to sewing class at Sew Crafty Houston. It was incredibly enjoyable. The space is cute, the class is good and Sarah, the owner and my instructor is knowledgeable and patient.
If you have never sewed, but you're interested in learning beginning fundamentals, you will be comfortable in this class. The other three people in my class had never touched a sewing machine and they all did fine.
I can sew, but I'm a weak to decent seamstress. I'm self-taught, so there are basics I wanted to cover with a class. This class does it. I now know how to self-wind bobbins on my sewing machine and that gem of knowledge alone is worth the cost of the class (I think it was $40).
This one class class dramatically improved my sewing skills. I got on the machine tonight and it was like a different person sewing. So, if I've sewed you something over the past year -- sorry.
Another reason I loved the experience, Sarah loves Houston like I do. It's nice to be around someone with Houston pride as we are often few and far between...but that's fine, less people to crowd the good stuff.
I sometimes avoid talking about places I really love, because I don't want the word to get out and as I mention almost weekly, I despise crowds. I'm willing to talk about Sew Crafty though. I'm all about supporting local business -- and a woman owned business, near my house, that I love...GO.
And with so many people having birthdays in March (READ: me and Dave...but I'm talking about me), it's a great gift idea. In case you were wondering.

Thank you so much Bethany! It was an absolute pleasure having you in class and I"m so glad that you had a god time (and that you will not have to hand wind bobbins anymore, because that is no fun!)
Have a great week and I hope to see you soon!
Unfortunately she doesn't have anything planned out for May yet, but I'll keep checking. I'm really excited about this!
